Title: Assessment of antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic potential of Solanum nigrum and Musa paradisiaca in alloxan induced diabetic rats

    In the present study Antihyperglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of aqueous leaf extracts of Solanum nigrum and Musa paradisiaca were evaluated in alloxan induced diabetes rats. The rats were concurrently treated with 200, 400 mg/kg b.w. for 21 days. The changes in blood glucose level and body weight were measured in 7 days interval. After 21 days of experimental period, rats were sacrificed by cervical decapitation and blood samples were collected. Biochemical estimation of blood glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, HDL, and VLDL were done from blood sample. Administration of Solanum nigrum and Musa paradisiaca to alloxan induced diabetic rats caused significant antihyperglycemic and hypolipidemic effects when compared to diabetic control rats (p<0.0001, p< 0.001). Glibenclamide (0.6 mg/kg b.w.) was used as standard in present study.
