    Objective: Poor oral hygiene can lead to dental caries, periodontal disease, and tooth loss. In India, where majority of population resides in rural areas, oral hygiene awareness is very important. Hence, this study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices about oral hygiene maintenance among patients attending Saveetha Dental College for treatment. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted randomly among 200 patients attending outpatient Department of Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The study was conducted during the month of January 2018 after taking prior informed consent from the patients who were willing to participate. The self-administered customized close-ended questionnaire written in English was adapted from several studies. The questionnaire consisted of patient name, age, sex, education, and occupation. All aspects of oral health promoting factors including oral hygiene, diet, and awareness regarding oral health and practices were addressed in the questionnaire. Data obtained were statistically analyzed and results obtained. Results: Almost 61% of people experienced bleeding from gums after brushing teeth. Most of the participants (65%) were brushing only once daily, 27.5% were brushing twice daily, 3.5% were brushing occasionally, and only 4% were brushing more than twice daily. 84.5% of the population in the study were not using any interdental aids, 2.5% were using floss, 10% were using toothpick, and 3% were using interdental brush. Conclusion: Overall knowledge, attitude, and practices of the patients regarding oral hygiene maintenance were not satisfactory. Hence, there is a need to educate the general population regarding oral hygiene maintenance.
