Introduction: Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health. It is a disease that is highly prevalent at all ages and is quickly reaching pandemic proportions. Obese people were having higher chance of getting cardio arrest and diabetes mellitus type 2. This study is conducted to calculate the insulin and insulin resistance (IR) level in obese patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 patients were selected from the outpatient department of Saveetha Dental College and Hospital. An informed consent was obtained from the patient before sample collection. 5 ml of fasting venous blood was collected and distributed in plain collection tubes and centrifuged in 3000 rpm for serum. Then, serum was separated and analyzed to estimate the fasting blood sugar (FBS) by glucose oxidase-peroxidase method using ERBA CHEM 5 plus analyzer. Insulin was analyzed by ROBONIK ELISA READER. IR was calculated by HOMO IR calculation. Result: The means FBS, insulin, and IR were high in obese individuals when compared to healthy individuals. The serum of FBS, insulin, and IR level in control group was 9.3 ± 8.29, 3.63 ± 2.02, and 0.83 ± 0.43, respectively. The serum level of FBS, insulin, and IR level in obese group was 100.3 ± 17.04, 7.81 ± 1.73, and 1.93 ± 0.47, respectively. There was significant difference between these two groups with P < 0.0001. Conclusion: From this research, we have found that, in obese individuals, the level of IR, FBS level, and the insulin level was high as compared to normal individual.
