  • Abstract

The genus Tephrosia is known for its unusual flavonoids. Chemical examination of the leaves of Tephrosia tinctoria led to the isolation of stigmasterol, lupinifolin, 7-O-methyl glabranin, rotenone, dehydrodeguelin and betulinic acid. The compounds were isolated and purified by chromatographic methods and the structures were established by 2D NMR analysis and MS spectral data. All the compounds are reported for the first time from the species T. tinctoria. The crude extracts of Tephrosia tinctoria showed antibacterial, antifungal and piscicidal activities.
