    Aim: This study aims to evaluate the association between tobacco usage with body mass index (BMI) (nutritional status) and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels (diabetic status). Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. By random sampling, patients in the age group of 20–50 years who attended the outpatient department and who satisfied the inclusion criteria formed the study population (n = 150). The study population was divided into three study groups. Group A (n = 50) current tobacco users, Group B (n = 50) past tobacco users, and Group C (n = 50) never tobacco users. Height and weight were measured and BMI was calculated using the formula: Weight (kg)/height (m2 ). Diabetes mellitus status of the study sample was confirmed with their HbA1c levels. Results: The results of the study show that there is a statistically significant difference between the three study groups (Group A, Group B, and Group C) in relation to BMI and HbA1c levels (P < 0.05). On comparing the HbA1c levels, the current tobacco users mean values were higher (6.4%) compared to non-users of tobacco (5.3%). The mean BMI levels were found to be higher in Group C (22.0 kg/m2 ) compared to Groups A (19.6 kg/m2 ) and B (20.5 kg/m2 ). Conclusion: This study showed that participants who are current and past tobacco users have higher HbA1c levels (prediabetes) compared never tobacco users. Moreover, tobacco usage could be considered as one of the factors associated with low BMI.
