  • Abstract

Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities were evaluated for newly synthesized 2-mercaptobenzimidazole derivatives by carageenan induced paw edema method and cup plate method respectively. Totally a series of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole derivatives (1A-1J) were synthesized by mannich reaction from 2- mercaptobenzimidazole by reaction with compounds having secondary amine and formaldehyde. The purity of the synthesized compounds was checked by melting point and TLC and their structure was established by various analytical techniques such as IR and 1HNMR spectral studies. All the synthesized compounds exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity and showed mild to moderate antibacterial and antifungal activities.
