    The antimicrobial activity of methanol extract obtained from Cleome viscosa L. was tested against 4 bacterial species (Erwinia carotova, Pseudomonas
    marginalis, Pseudomonas syringe and Xanthomonas campestris) and 10 fungal species of (Alternaria alternate, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Acremonium
    strictum, Bipolaris bicolor, Fusarium oxysporium, Pencillium expansum, Rhizoctina solani, Tiarosporella phaseolina and Ustilago maydis) plant pathogens. Better antibacterial activity was observed with the extract showed maximum activity against Erwinia carotova. Among different fungi tested Tiarosporella phaseolina and Alternaria alternate were found to be more sensitive to plant methanol crude extract. The antimicrobial assay was performed by agar well diffusion method. Recent investigations have shown that the antioxidant properties of plants could be correlated with oxidative stress defense and different human diseases. In this respect flavonoids and other polyphenolic compounds have gained the greatest attention. The plant extract was tested for Ferric reducing ability of Plasma Assay (FRAP) and total phenol content. For antimicrobial activities tested, the extract was subjected to its effectiveness against both
    bacteria and fungi. The zones of inhibition produced by the crude methanol extract against selected phytopathogens were measured and compared with those of standard antibiotics Streptomycin for bacteria and Bavistin for fungi. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of methanol extract of whole plant of Cleome viscosa. The results of present study revealed that C. viscosa whole plant might be explored as viable source of antimicrobial and antioxidant agent.
