Introduction: Mandibular third molars are unique tooth in the oral cavity due to the continuous changes in angulation and position during eruption. Their development and eruption in the oral cavity is determined by the space availability between mandibular second molar and the ramus of mandible. Screening commonly includes clinical examination as well as X-rays such as panoramic radiograph. This study aims to analyze the incidence of types of mandibular third molar impaction in different skeletal face types. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients with impacted third molars who visited the outpatient department of Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals, Chennai, were selected by convenience sampling technique and facial form was recorded clinically by facial index. The facial type was determined by the measure of facial index. The obtained records were compiled; processed further graphs were made to represent them. Results: In mesiofacial patients, the most common impaction was mesioangular (43%) followed by horizontal impaction (28%). In brachyfacial patients, the most common impaction was vertical impaction (46%) followed by mesioangular (33%). In dolichofacial patients, the most common impaction was horizontal impaction (47%) followed by mesioangular (28%). Conclusion: By analyzing the association of types of impaction with different facial forms will enable us to predict impactions in adolescents, thereby providing a better treatment for a better outcome.
