    Laser therapy has a long history of medical application and has begun to show great promise in dental applications. There is evidence that laser therapy is a useful adjunct to conventional routine dental care and is rising in popularity among dentists. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is defined to supply direct biostimulative light energy to the cells. Laser biostimulation is widely used to improve the patient comfort, treatment, and life quality. It has been reported that low-level semiconductor diode lasers could enhance the wound healing process. The periodontal ligament is crucial for maintaining the tooth and surrounding tissues in periodontal wound healing. Low-level semiconductor diode lasers have been used in LLLT, there have been few reports on their effects on periodontal ligament fibroblasts. The low-level lasers do not cause temperature elevation within the tissue, but instead it produces their effects from photo biostimulation effect within the tissues. The therapy performed with low-level lasers is called as LLLT. Low-intensity laser therapy also has stimulating effects on bone cells and can accelerate the repair process of the bone. However, further research needs to be done in laser efficacy for periodontal treatment. Laser biostimulation appears to influence the behavior of the repair process. This paper aims at reviewing the most interesting aspects of the use of low power laser in the tissue-repair process, biostimulation, various mechanism of action, implications on in vitro, in vivo, animal and clinical studies, clinical application on various fields in medical, dental and orthopedics and LLLT effects on inflammatory process, effects on cells, and wound healing.
