Background: With the techniques of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) being applied in the field of prosthodontics, a concept of intraoral digital impressions was put forward in the early 1980s. It has drawn comprehensive attention from dentists and has been used for dental prosthesis fabrication in a number of cases. The digital impression technique is expected to bring about absolute digitization in fabrication of restorations, reducing human errors, and saving a lot of time. The knowledge and awareness required to embrace the digital workflow in a day-to-day practice needs to evaluated. Aim: The aim of the study is to conduct a survey among dental professionals regarding the workflow using digital impression techniques. Materials and Methods: A survey was conducted based on a questionnaire which was distributed among 100 final-year dental students, interns, and PG’s dental professionals throughout Chennai. The survey consists of a set of 10 questions. The questionnaire was framed on the basis of knowledge about the technology employed in the digital impressions systems and its workflow among the dental practitioners. The results were analyzed. Results: Only 20% of the professionals were aware about the digital impressions and nearly 80% of the professionals were not aware about it. About 20% of the dental professionals answered that digital impressions are efficient when compared to the conventional impressions method, but majority of the dental professionals around 50% were not accurate in choosing digital over conventional impressions. Conclusion: The knowledge and awareness with regard to digital impression techniques among dental professionals was observed to be inadequate in this study. Hence, more intense continuing health education and awareness programs should be regularly conducted to facilitate improved understanding and application.
