Introduction: Clove is an old spice that has been used from olden days for toothache due to its analgesic property. Garlic has an anti-inflammatory property; hence, it has the property to relieve tooth pain. The aim of this study is to compare the effect of clove and garlic in relieving tooth pain. Materials and Methods: Thirty volunteers with tooth pain were included in this study and divided into two groups. Each group consists of 15 participants. Group 1 was given clove for toothache and Group 2 was given garlic for toothache. The pain was measured using a pain scale. Data were collected and analyzed. Results: In Group 1, 54% of the population had shown an effective recovery after using the clove. About 66% of the participants had severe and very severe pain, but it had been reduced to 20% after using clove. In Group 2, only 33% of the population had shown effective recovery after using garlic. About 60% of the participants had severe and very severe pain, but it had been reduced to 20% after using garlic. Conclusion: From the above study, it is evident that both clove and garlic had a property to relieve tooth pain. However, the effectiveness of clove in relieving tooth pain was more compared to that of the garlic. However, both clove and garlic can control or relieve the tooth pain to some extent; the permanent solution or treatment has to be acquired by consulting a dentist.
