    Aim: Synthesis of pyrazoline-coumarin hybrids and evaluation of their in-vitro antimalarial activity. Method: It involved three steps. In the first step 3-acetyl coumarin was synthesised which on reaction with different aromatic aldehydes yielded chalcones. These chalcones were then reacted with hydrazine hydrate, phenyl hydrazine and isoniazid (INH) to yield the corresponding pyrazolines. The synthesised compounds were characterised by using IR, NMR and Mass spectral data. Compounds were evaluated for their in-vitro antimalarial activity against 3D7 P. falciparum using chloroquine as standard drug by Schizont maturation inhibition assay. Result: The pyrazolines formed from INH are better inhibitors compared to those formed from hydrazine hydrate or phenyl hydrazine. Compound 3h was found to be the best active compound in the series with an IC50 9.684µg/mL. Conclusion: An increase in bulkiness of the molecule results in an increase in in-vitro antimalarial activity.
