Abstract
The solubility behavior of drugs remains one of the most challenging aspects in formulation development. Currently only 8% of the new molecules have both high solubility and permeability. The drugs therapeutic efficacy depends upon the bioavailability and ultimately upon the solubility. Salt formation, particle size reduction, etc. have commonly been used to increase the dissolution rate of drugs, there are some practical limitations with these techniques the desired bioavailability enhancement may not always be achieved. Solid dispersion seems to be a viable technique for overcoming this problem. In this review, it is intended to discuss the recent advances related on the area of solid dispersion. Finally industrially feasible alternative approaches in the manufacture of solid dispersion have been highlighted.
