    Background: The Mecp2 gene is situated on the X chromosome, and it has about four exons and three introns. The exon1 of the MeCP2 gene has a more transcriptional level when compared to other exons which are located in the brain. Any mutation taking place in the exon1 of the MeCP2 gene leads to decrease in the mitochondrial membrane potential. The aim of the study is to determine the restoration of mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) of Allicin on MeCp-2 deficient cells. Materials and Methods: MeCp-2 deficient cells were treated with different concentration of allicin. Mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) was determined using the fluorescent probe, JC-1. Results : It was found that Allicin improves the mitochondrial membrane potential on MeCp2 deficient cells with an increase in concentration when compared to positive control donepezil.
