Abstract
Aim:The aim of this study was done to assess the anti-inflammatory property of heartwood of Acacia catechu Willd. through protein denaturation test. Materials and Methods:The test solution, standard solution, product control, and test control solutions were incubated at 37°C for 20 min and heated for 3 min and all the solutions were analyzed by spectrophotometer to obtain their optical density and the inhibition percentage was called using a standard formula for varying concentration of the A. catechu Willd. and the results were tabulated and compared with the inhibition percentage of diclofenac sodium which is a standard anti-inflammatory drug. Results:Heartwood of A. catechu Willd. has shown mild anti-inflammatory activity when compared to the diclofenac sodium which is a standard anti-inflammatory activity. There is also an increase in the anti- inflammatory activity with increase in concentration of the test substrate. Conclusion:It is a promising alternative for the management of candidates with autoimmune inflammatory disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. The use of these extracts will be greatly beneficial in inhibition of protein denaturation which causes the inflammation and, hence, can be used for the treatment of arthritis.
