Abstract
Aim:The aim of the present study is to establish the significant relations between sigmoid sulcus of both sides of the skull. Introduction:Anatomically, sigmoid sulcus lodges sigmoid sinus, which is one among the dural venous sinus and continues as an internal jugular vein. Spread of infection occurs from the scalp to the sigmoid sinuses through mastoid emissary vein transmitted by mastoid foramen; thereby, it causes thrombosis of the sinuses. Materials and Methods:The present study was measured and analyzed sigmoid sulcus and its related structures by using 40 South Indian dry skulls and Vernier caliper. Results:The present study have observed that the incidence and position of mastoid foramen; width and length of sigmoid sulcus. There were a slight difference in the dimension of width and length of sigmoid sulcus (Osch et al., 2019). Conclusion:The present study thus concluded that morphometrical knowledge of sigmoid sulcus and its associated structure is of utmost importance for surgeons for easy approach.
