Abstract
Introduction:Targeted functional studies over the past decade have identified essential roles for lncRNAs in development, differentiation and various cancers.Although overall sequence similarity is minimal, xenotypic lncRNAs have been found to exhibit micro-homology and are functionally and structurally conserved.Mechanistic and functional characterization would greatly enhance the relatively new field of lncRNA structural biology. The aim of this study is to perform multiple sequence alignment of maternally expressed gene 9 LncRNA and understand the evolutionary relationship with other similar species. Materials and Method:Sequence of the MEG9 LncRNA was collected from the LncRNAdb which had an accession number EU616813.1. This sequence was downloaded in FASTA format and saved. Blast was performed to search and identify possible similar sequences to MEG9. Result:From this phylogenetic tree, it was clearly understood that there exists a high level of convergence of this MEG9 across species with commending sequence identity such that the taxonomical considerations are also maintained.
