Abstract
Introduction:Sleep-wake cycle consists of roughly 8 h of nocturnal sleep and 16 h of daytime wakefulness in humans, is controlled by a combination of two internal influences: Sleep homeostasis and circadian rhythms. In university, many students have a lot of academic load stressful work and a hectic schedule which significantly alters sleep-wake patterns, leading to increased sleepiness, impaired attention, impaired performance, and alterations in mood. There is a lot of impact of sleep loss on physiological and cognitive functions which include memory and attention, complex thought, motor response, and emotional control. It is well documented that sleep loss can adversely affect mood. We all know how irritable we become after a night spent tossing and turning. A growing body of medical evidence links inadequate sleep with anger, anxiety, and sadness. Materials and Methods:A survey of 13 questions was prepared to know the awareness of sleep pattern among college students. The survey was conducted among 102 students from various colleges through SurveyPlanet link. The data were collected and analyzed. Results: According to survey, 97% of students are aware that a perfect sleep- wake cycle determines the health of an individual. 68.3% of students feel that sleeplessness affects their mood, energy, and relationship. 69% of students agree that they feel fresh after sleep. 56% of students sleep <7 h. According to a study, late teens require proper 8 h of sleep. 90% of students have habit of using gadgets before sleep. Conclusion:From this survey, I want to conclude that the students are not having a proper sleep-wake pattern so they should be guided to have a healthy lifestyle, hence, a healthy generation. Parents and teachers should guide the children as they are still in their late teens to have proper sleep and healthy lifestyle.
