Abstract
Objective:Mahayograj Guggul is a herbal formulation, which contains part of Commiphora mukul, the main active constituent is E- and Z-guggulsterone, used for the treatment of Arthritis and cholesterol-lowering activity. Method:Quantification of phytochemical compounds by HPTLC method, this is method is simple, accurate and precise method estimation of Mahayograj Guggul herbal formulation by high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method. Respective standards were spotted on the silica plates for the development process Acetone:Toluene (19:1 v/v)used as mobile phase. The analysis was carried out in the absorbance mode at 254 nm using HPTLC scanner. Results and Discussion:The Retention factor (Rf) values of herbal formulation compared with the Rf value of standard markers such as E-guggulsterone and Z-guggulsterone and myrcene, and it shows confirmation of abovementioned phytochemical compounds. The peak area of herbal formulation and standard compounds was compared to ensure the presence and their quantities were estimated. Results show that this method is a simple, linear, and specific method for the estimation of phytochemical compounds in the marketed herbal formulation by HPTLC techniques. This method can be used for the quantification of guggulsterone isomers as well as myrcene in the marketed herbal formulation.
