The antibacterial effect of Mexican marigold (Tagetes erecta) leaf extract at room temperature against 10 gram positive multidrug resistant bacterial isolates including Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium. Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Propionibacterium acne, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactine, Staphylococcus saprophyticus and 6 gram negative multidrug resistant bacterial isolates including Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas auregenosa, Salmonella enteriditis, Acinetobacter baumannii, Alcaligen faecalis were studied by well diffusion method. The maximum antibacterial effect of Mexican Marigold leaf extract among those micro-organism was obtained for Acinetobacter baumannii (Acitvity Index = 0.913333333) and Propionibacterium acne (Acitvity Index = 0.906666667) and minimum was for Streptococcus pneumonia (Activity Index = 0.026666667). The results suggest that species of Mexican marigold i.e. Tagetes erecta has antibacterial effect against airborne disease causing gram positive and gram negative bacteria and mainly against skin infection causing bacteria, and hence can be useful in developing drugs for diseases like dermatitis, acne, skin races and also can be developed as antiseptic.

Title: Biochemical and Histopathological studies of Butea Monosperma (Lam) Taub leaves on Paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in albino rats

Butea Monosperma (Lam) Taub (Fabeceae) has been used in variety of diseases in traditional system of medicine in India and its use for hepatic ailments is also documented. In the present study an attempt has been made to validate its Hepatoprotective activity. The methanolic and aqueous extract of Butea Monosperma (Lam) Taub (Fabeceae) leaves was screened for its hepatoprotective activities against paracetamol (3 g/kg oral) induce liver damage in albino rats. Pretreatment of rats with aqueous and methanolic extracts lowered significantly the levels of biochemical parameters. The reversal of increased serum enzymes in paracetamol induced liver damage by Butea monosperma (Lam) Taub may be due to the prevention of leakage of the intracellular enzymes by its membrane stabilizing activity. This is in agreement with the commonly accepted view that serumlevels of transaminases return to normal with healing of hepatic parenchyma and the regeneration of hepatocytes.

The present study was designed to investigate the possible neuroprotective and antioxidant effects of hydroalcoholic extract of root bark of Salaciaoblonga (SOHE). Neurotoxicity and oxidative stress was induced in Albino rats by administration of aluminiun chloride (Alcl 3 ) (300 mg/kgbody weight oral). The hydroalcoholic extract of Salaciaoblonga at a dose of 67mg/kg body weight were orally administered at single dose per day to neurotoxicity induced rats for a period of 36 days.The effect of SOHE on tissue and serum antioxidant markers are investigated. In regards to antioxidant activity, extract exhibits a significant effect (p<0.05) showing increased effect of enzymatic and non-enzymatic parameters viz, CAT,SOD,GST, GSH and the LPO level is significantly decreased (p<0.05) on treatment with SOHE treatment. The blood and cortex acetylcholine esterase (AchE) level are significantly (p<0.05) decreased in SOHE treated rats which indicates the decrease in aluminum induced neurotoxicity. Thus the results indicates that the extract exhibit the neuro-protective and antioxidant activity through correction of oxidative stress.
